Give Generously This Season:
Support Food Banks Mississauga
Last updated: Dec 1, 2025
As we enter the winter season, a time that reminds us of warmth,
gratitude, and community, the Rockwood Residents’ Association is asking our
neighbourhood to come together in support of Food Banks Mississauga,
which is facing unprecedented demand this year.
The RRA is proud to donate $500 on behalf of our community, and we
hope Rockwood residents will consider donating food or making a financial
contribution to help support our neighbours experiencing food insecurity.
Record Demand, Growing Need
Food Banks Mississauga recently concluded its annual Thanksgiving Drive,
raising $848,513, a slight increase of just 0.43% over last
year’s total. Although the generosity of our city is deeply appreciated, this
small fundraising gain comes at a time when usage has surged dramatically.
Between 2024 and 2025, Food Banks Mississauga recorded more than 503,000
visits across its 60+ community food programs, a 20% increase in
just one year.
Nearly 40% of visitors are new, and almost 30% are employed,
yet still unable to afford basic essentials as the cost of living continues to
rise. Many rely on underfunded social assistance programs, where current
benefit rates fall well below what is required to meet today’s expenses.
As the organization’s leaders emphasize: “The need for food never stops—and only continues to grow.”
How You Can Help
During the colder months, families, seniors, and individuals across
Mississauga feel the impact of food insecurity even more acutely. Every
contribution—large or small—makes a meaningful difference.
Ways to Donate:
Drop off non-perishable food
items at many local collection points throughout the city
Donate directly at the Food Banks Mississauga
headquarters at 4544Eastgate Parkway, Mississauga, ON, L4W0A8
Visit their website at www.foodbankmississauga.ca to make a secure monetary donation
Financial contributions are especially powerful because Food Banks
Mississauga can stretch every dollar to purchase high-need, nutritious items
efficiently.
A Community That Cares
In the words of Food Banks Mississauga staff: “We couldn’t provide food for neighbours in need without our community’s
support.”
This season, let’s demonstrate once again that Rockwood Village is a
community that looks after one another.
If you are able, please consider donating food or making an online
contribution. Together, we can help ensure that fewer of our neighbours go
hungry this winter.
